Braxton County was established in 1836 and it is located in the central region of the state. With a population of approximately 14,523 the county has a total area of 514 square miles, and the county seat is Sutton.
Braxton County is in central West Virginia on the Allegheny Plateau. Contributing to the economy of the area are lumber operations, fruit and tobacco farms, oil and natural gas wells, coal, lumber, and granite quarries.
